A few days have now passed, since Shinichi shrunk. So far, things have not been going well and no info about Gin and Vodka have arose from the recent cases. He even complains to Dr. Agasa about the fact that Kogoro hardly gets any work. Agasa tries to cheer him up and gives him his first gadget, the voice-changing bow tie.
Later, when Shinichi is back at Ran's place, there is a knock on the door. The visitor is a pop idol and her manager, who has come to Kogoro to find out who is stalking her. Kogoro takes on the case and goes to see the celebrity's apartment.
After the door to the apartment was opened, a corpse is found lying on the ground, who turns out to be an ex-boyfriend of the celebrity's. At first, Yoko Okino (name has been kept the same in the U.S. dub), the pop idol, is suspected, but Kogoro is blinded by his obsession with her, so he keeps insisting she can't be the criminal.
The manager, Yoko, and another celebrity are all suspects and it is up to Shinichi to discover what really happened and who the killer was.
